The Book Show returns to RTÉ Radio 1 this weekend for a new season - every Saturday night at 7pm, Sinéad Gleeson reports from the world of books and authors.

Listen to the first episode of the new series above.

There’s a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks and months on The Book Show; author interviews, discussions, features and a special live edition.

You’ll hear Sinéad in conversation with critically acclaimed Irish writers such as Sally Rooney, whose acclaimed debut novel Conversations With Friends examines the lives of today’s twentysomethings, and Seán O’Reilly who is publishing Levitation, his first book in over a decade. She’ll also be speaking to emerging writers and hearing their work.

The Book Show also features the finest international authors. Recent guests have included the 2017 Pulitzer winner Colson Whitehead, British writer Will Self and Denmark's Dorthe Nors. In the coming weeks, listeners can look forward to interviews world famous activists, former politicians, comedians, bestselling crime writers and leading feminists.

There will be reports from John Steinbeck’s Monterey, Muriel Spark’s Edinburgh and Anthony Burgess’ Manchester.

In October, there will be a special hour-long broadcast of an episode recorded in Dublin in front of an live audience. At the event special guests will join musicians and actors to celebrate some of our favourite (or least favourite) characters in novels. To coincide with the broadcast Sinéad, will announce details of a competition in the episode this Saturday, September 9th - asking listeners to write a letter to a character!

So be sure to tune in for that and for each episode taking us right up to a Christmas Book Show special in December - but let’s not mention Christmas yet. We’re only just back to school...

In the meantime - get reading!
