The late, great Sam Shepard talked to Sean Rocks from RTÉ Arena back in 2009. But there was one tiny condition - he didn't want to discuss his work.

Instead, Shepard wanted to talk about the music he loved: the roots, Americana and C&W tunes that inform his life and art, in particular the Appalachian and old time tunes that inspired him as a young playwright in the Greenwich Village of the '60s.

With a playlist that runs the gambit from bluegrass legends The Stanley Brothers to modern greats like Junior Brown, the result offers a truly fascinating insight into a Great American Artist.
