Described by Ryan Tubridy as ‘quite the rock star’ of literature, Marlon James joined the programme today ahead of his appearance at the Dalkey Book Festival.
As part of their wide ranging chat, novelist Marlon revealed a rather unusual composition which he adds to each time he takes to the skies.
"I have this long-running essay that I continually update called ‘On Turbulence’ and every time I hit turbulence I just add on a paragraph"
Since winning the Man Booker Prize in 2015 for his novel A Brief History Of Seven Killings, Marlon has traveled on over 50 flights despite never feeling comfortable with the process, and he admits his ongoing essay is getting quite long.
"It actually does calm me and I can only type. If I write, it freaks me out…"
It was just one aspect of a fascinating chat encompassing ‘dodgy movies’, the impact his sexuality had on his life, and more besides.
