Watch: Sinéad Crowley, Arts & Media Correspondent, reports on the completion of work on the historic wings of the National Gallery of Ireland.
Around 80% of the gallery’s exhibition space has been closed since 2011 to make way for a massive refurbishment project, one that includes the construction of an internal courtyard by the Office of Public Works and the Dublin-based architects Heneghan Peng. This radical expansion of the NGI space will allow some 650 works from the National Gallery collection to go on display, creating, as director Sean Rainbird puts it, "a real opportunity to learn to love the building again."
The refurbished National Gallery of Ireland officially opens to the public this Thursday, June 15th, at 9.15 am.
