Rafiq Kathwari was the first non-Irish recipient of the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award. He divides his time between New York, Ireland and Kashmir, where he was born, as he puts it, “a Scorpio at midnight” in the disputed Kashmir Valley, where he has been working for many years as a social entrepreneur, empowering women artisans. He obtained an MFA in Creative Writing at Columbia University and a Masters in Political and Social Science from the New School University.
His collection In Another Country is published by Doire Press.
Rafiq joined Rick O’Shea on the Poetry Programme earlier this year and you can listen back to the interview here.
