    The first physical evidence that gladiators fought animals during the Roman period has been confirmed by researchers.

    Firefighters are continuing to respond to a major industrial fire in Wicklow town. However, Wicklow County Council said the blaze, which was reported around 5.45pm and created large plumes of black smoke over the harbour area, is now under control.
