    Castlebar school appeals over 'intolerable' accommodation

    A primary school in Castlebar, Co Mayo, has appealed to the Department of Education to purchase a site in the town as a matter of urgency so that a purpose-built school can be constructed for it.

    International English language student representatives have told an Oireachtas committee hearing that the number of hours that students are allowed to work should be increased from 20 to 30 per week in order to combat exploitation by some employers.

    Students' Union refuses to pay Trinity's €214,000 fine

    The Students' Union at Trinity College has told the university that it does not intend to pay a bill of €214,000 that was levied on the union for what the college's Financial Services Division says were losses it incurred as a result of protests backed by the Students' Union.

    University College Cork has said it is giving its "considered attention" to a renewed demand from its Students' Union that it take a number of steps including the cutting ties with Israeli universities and institutions, after the union urged it to "end its silence on Palestine".
