From Ronaldo in 2002 to James Rodriguez in 2014, Real Madrid have a proud history of spending big on the biggest talent at the World Cup. Here we predict the 2018 Galacticos...
Hot
Ahmed Musa
Two cracking goals and a stellar performance for Nigeria against Iceland suddenly had everyone googling the name of Ahmed Musa.
Who was this bright new star of international football and where has he come from? Is he an African star waiting to be discovered plying his trade in the Eredivisie or perhaps an Atletico Madrid reserve just who's ready for his chance to break into the first team?
Well it turns out that he’s a Jamie Vardy understudy at Leicester and he’s spent the last six months farmed out on loan to former team CSKA Moscow.
Restricted to just two Cup appearances for Leicester last season, Musa is a striker who could probably do with a new challenge and there are few places more challenging that the Bernabeu.
He’s a player that Florentino Perez could snap up on the cheap too. Leicester paid £16million for his services and would more than likely be happy to recoup that.
However, there’s a chance that, like the rest of us, they’ve forgotten that he’s actually a Leicester player. Florentino should chance his arm, announce his signing and see if Leicester remember that Musa is still under contract with them.
Not
Neymar
It’s been mooted for a while. The former Barcelona star hasn’t really settled in Paris since his €222 million move to PSG and Perez is a long term admirer of the Brazilian star.
No player has moved between Barcelona and Madrid since Javier Saviola in 2007 and there’s been all kinds of conspiracy theories about Neymar’s move to PSG being a temporary one before he makes the move to the Bernabeu.
Based on what his performances in Russia however, PSG might not have to worry about losing their prize asset.
Once again the Brazilian looked to be a yard off the pace and when you’re struggling against a defence of the calibre of Costa Rica, you know something is up.
It wasn’t until Philippe Countinho had already made the crucial breakthrough that Neymar finally found the net and he celebrated at the final whistle as if he’d just won the tournament, not added the gloss onto another fairly uninspired display.
And the less said about his VAR penalty embarrassment the better.
