Waterford manager Tomás Mac an tSaoir hailed his side as they made it three wins in a row in Division 1 of the Lidl National Football League by ousting reigning TG4 All-Ireland champions Dublin in Dungarvan.

They are the only side with a 100% record in the top flight after scoring a deserved 1-10 to 0-08 win.

"The effort was excellent. It was a quick turnaround from the game on Monday so credit to the players. We're delighted to get another win," said Mac an tSaoir.

"The conditions weren’t there for champagne football by any means, a dirty day weather wise. There was a lot to be happy about, some lovely scores from Bríd McMaugh and others, but we thought we probably left a few scores behind us too."

A goal from Lauren McGregor helped Waterford lead by 1-06 to 0-04 at the break and they did not relent after the restart as they continued their winning start.

It’s a third defeat in a row for All-Ireland champions Dublin, with joint-managers Paul Casey and Derek Murray using the early stages of the league to try out various combinations.

Elsewhere in Division 1, Kerry full-back Ava Doherty was delighted that they made the long trip to Meath a winning one as they won by 4-12 to 2-12.

"It was a big trip up, a long trip up this morning. Some of us were gone at half five or six o’clock. We wanted to hit the ground running straight away. I suppose it was huge to get a win after a defeat in our home ground last week. It was a huge win for us against Meath."

Síofra O’Shea scored 1-06, with Leah McMahon getting two goals for a Kerry side who led by 2-05 to 1-07 at the break.

"It was great for Leah," added Doherty. "It was her first game starting and she got two goals. That’s a great start and you can kind of control the game once you’re ahead. That was the gameplan to get off to a good start."

Orla Finnegan got Meath’s goal in the opening half, while Orlaith Sheedy found the net in the closing stages but they were chasing this game for long periods.

"We are quite disappointed to be honest with how we performed out there," said Meath captain Niamh Gallogly.

"We just didn’t seem to get into the game in the first half. The goals just killed us. Each time we tried to bring it back. Credit to our girls, we did dig it out but obviously goals win matches. We are frustrated with ourselves. There are a lot of learnings to take from it."
