Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been rewarded for his MVP season with a contract extension that reportedly guarantees him $250 million (€230m), the most guaranteed money in NFL history.

The Bills announced last night that the new contract agreement will keep Allen tied to Buffalo through the 2030 season.

It replaces his previous deal, which had four years remaining, and ESPN and NFL Network reported the new contract to be worth $330 million in total.

Allen's $55m per year average earnings are the second-highest behind Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott ($60m) but only $231m of Prescott's contract is guaranteed.

Allen, 28, took home MVP honours after completing 63.6% of his passes for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and a career-low six interceptions in 2024 while adding 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

His MVP win was considered an upset over favourite Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

Allen, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, guided the second seed Bills to the AFC Championship Game for the second time but they lost 32-29 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year $450m contract in 2020, which was restructured in 2023 to guarantee him at least $52.7m annually until 2026.
