St Louis Blues defenceman Jay Bouwmeester is understood to be in a stable condition after suffering "a cardiac episode" that forced the cancellation of the NHL game against Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.
The 36-year-old, who helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup last season, had just stepped off the ice when he collapsed on the bench during the first period of the game.
Bouwmeester was immediately attended to and taken to UC Irvine Medical Center.

A statement released by the Blues read: "With 7:50 remaining in the first period of our game tonight, Jay Bouwmeester suffered a cardiac episode and collapsed on our bench after completing his shift.
"Thankfully, with the quick response of our medical trainers, Anaheim medical trainers and their team physicians, they were able to stabilise Jay. He was alert and moving all of his extremities as he was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center.
"Currently, Jay is conscious and alert as he undergoes further testing by Anaheim's physicians. We will update Jay's condition on Wednesday morning."
Bouwmeester, currently in his eighth season with the Blues, was playing his 1,241st NHL game.
