It took one of quarterback Russell Wilson's "best" ever games but the Seattle Seahawks managed to eke out a close 30-29 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

"I thought Russell played one of the best games I've ever seen him play," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said after Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein missed a 44-yard field goal with 15 seconds left that would have won the game.

Wilson connected with eight receivers for four touchdowns, including a spectacular 13-yard grab by Tyler Lockett along the end zone sideline in the first quarter.

"Everyone's raving about how it's one of the greatest catches they've ever seen, but it's also one of the greatest throws," Carroll said.

The win did not come easily for the Seahawks, with the visitors' pass-rush pressuring Wilson and Rams quarterback Jared Goff making using running back Todd Gurley for 15 carries, 51 yards and two second-half touchdowns.

But in the end the effort was for nought, with Zuerlein pushing his kick wide of the right-hand upright and Seattle's fans exploding ahead of a night of celebration.
