Graham Gano missed a 50-yard field goal with the last play of the game as the Denver Broncos edged out the Carolina Panthers 21-20 in the NFL season opener.
It was a repeat of last season's Super Bowl and again saw the Broncos come out on top after Gano's kick was wide left with just four seconds remaining.
Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian picked up the victory in his first career start, finishing 18 of 26 for 178 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Panthers pivot Cam Newton was 18 of 33 for 194 yards with one touchdown and one interception but was sacked three times.
The Panthers carried a 17-7 lead into the fourth quarter but Siemian found running back CJ Anderson for a 25-yard touchdown early in the last session.
And after Newton was intercepted, Anderson went into the endzone from one yard out 10 plays later to give the Broncos a lead they would not relinquish.
Gano's 36-yard field goal made it a one-point game but he couldn't force the victory with his late attempt.
