DeSean Jackson and Dan Bailey were at the centre of a wild finish as the latter kicked the Dallas Cowboys to a 19-16 win over NFC East rivals the Washington Redskins.

Jackson, who fumbled in the dying minutes to give the Cowboys prime field position, looked to have gone from zero to hero with a game-tying touchdown, only for Bailey's field goal to settle the match.

Midway through the second quarter, with the game still scoreless, Dallas' Jason Witten became the 12th player - and only the second tight end, after Tony Gonzalez - to reach 1,000 NFL catches.

Witten followed Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in achieving the feat in this weekend's games.

Bailey and Dustin Hopkins traded field goals before half-time and did so twice more before the late drama.

With a minute and 26 seconds to go, Washington's Jackson turned a punt return back towards his own line, looking for space, but was hit and fumbled.

Dallas punter Chris Jones was the unlikely figure to recover the ball and Darren McFadden ran in for a touchdown two plays later.

That gave Washington time to drive down the field once more and Cousins floated a beautiful 28-yard touchdown pass to Jackson to level the scores.

However, the drama was not complete as Bailey converted a 54-yard game-winner with nine seconds left.
