One of the longest serving players in the Ulster side, Herring moved to 241 appearances for the province ahead of the 2024/25 season and is a regular captain.
Born in Cape Town but Irish-qualified since birth, the hooker has won 40 caps since his debut in 2014, and scored a crucial try in Ireland's decisive third Test win against the All Blacks in July 2022.
Herring also made three appearances in the Grand Slam campaign of 2023 and played in that year's World Cup in France.
