After two seasons blighted by injury, the Waterford man was the breakout star for Munster in 2023/24.
Traditionally a second row, the 6ft 9in forward was used regularly at flanker, and it proved to be an inspired change as he scored eight tries in 23 games.
A former Ireland U20 international, Ahern's form last season has brought him into contention for a senior cap with Andy Farrell's side, and he was part of the wider training squad for the 2024 Six Nations championship.
