Mayo-born but schooled in Dublin's Blackrock College, Heffernan has been with his home province since joining the club’s academy as a backrow forward in 2011.
He converted to hooker in 2013, and it’s a move that has paid off handsomely.
He made his senior Ireland debut against the USA in 2017, before being recalled in 2020, picking up seven caps to date, most recently in Ireland's first Test against the All Blacks in 2022.
