Munster have confirmed prop John Ryan will return for a third stint with the province ahead of next season.

Brothers Niall and Rory Scannell have also signed contract extensions until 2025 with Edwin Edogbo penning his first senior deal.

Ryan returned to Munster on a short-term contract in October after becoming a free agent following Wasps' demise and became the 13th player to make 200 appearances for the province.

Eddie O'Sullivan said that while Munster are showing better balance in attack, the Benetton game highlighted some issues in defence

The tighthead departed this month to link up with the Chiefs in Super Rugby Pacific and could make his debut against defending champions the Crusaders on 24 February.

However, the 34-year-old will become a Munster player for the third time once the Super Rugby season has concluded, having agreed a one-year contract for the 2023/24 campaign.

Ryan’s return to Ireland could also put him in contention for Andy Farrell’s Rugby World Cup squad. A Six Nations Grand Slam winner in 2018, Ryan won the last of his 24 Ireland caps against Japan in July 2021.

Edwin Edogbo will move up to a senior contract in 2024

The Scannell brothers have both made over 150 appearances for Munster and their new deals keep them at the province until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Edogbo, meanwhile, has made a big impact in his debut season, making seven appearances to date.

The 20-year-old lock, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, will continue as an academy player next season before moving up to a two-year senior contract in 2024.
