Conor Murray will remain a Munster player until at least 2024 after signing a new two-year deal with the IRFU.

The 32-year-old's current central contract had been set to expire this summer, but the scrum-half has followed Tadhg Furlong and Garry Ringrose in signing on the dotted line this month.

Murray looks set to hit his century of Irish Test caps before the end of his new contract, with the Limerick man having played 92 times for Ireland since his debut in 2011.

He's also played eight Test matches across three British and Irish Lions Tours, and captained the Lions briefly on their 2021 tour in the absence of the injured Alun-Wyn Jones.

"I'm delighted and grateful to be able to continue living this dream of playing here in Ireland," Murray said.

"With my home province Munster and the national squad, I truly believe there's huge potential of success and that there will be many more big days ahead."

David Nucifora, IRFU Performance Director, added: "Conor has had some challenges in the past few seasons but has put some niggling injuries behind him to play a central role with Munster, Ireland and the Lions.

"He is a popular figure in every squad he is involved in and adds a huge amount of experience and value to younger players coming through."

Murray played in all three of Ireland's Autumn Nations Series games against Japan, New Zealand and Argentina last month, although appears to have lost his place as Ireland's first choice scrum-half to Jamison Gibson-Park.

His contract is the third major renewal for the IRFU in recent weeks, with Furlong and Ringrose agreeing three-year deals.

Johnny Sexton, Keith Earls and Robbie Henshaw are among the other centrally contracted players whose deals are set to expire in the summer of 2022.
