Jannik Sinner began his ATP Finals title defence with a straight sets victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime on the second day in Turin.
The Italian cruised through his opening match of the tournament 7-5 6-1, while Auger-Aliassime appeared to be suffering with an injury to his leg and had to be seen by the physio on court.
Sinner wrapped up victory in an hour and 40 minutes and joins Alexander Zverev with one win at the top of the Bjorn Borg group.
Sinner had to wait for his first break. The first 11 games of the first set went with the serve but Auger-Aliassime was troubled by a problem with his leg towards the end of the set which Sinner capitalised on.
The second set was nothing more than a formality as he dropped just the solitary game to extend his indoor winning streak to 27 matches.
Sinner said: "It was a very tough match. Until 6-5, I had some chances to break his serve but he played some aggressive tennis and I'm happy to overcome a tough test, winning the first match is important in this competition and format.
"I hope it’s (Auger-Aliassime injury) not too serious and wish him a speedy recovery and he gets back to 100 per cent physically.
"You still have to be consistent. It’s a bit different but it’s an advantage, you have to say that and use it in the right way. You don’t want to win like this but if there’s a chance you have to use it.
"Its not nice, Felix has had some tough injuries so we wish him the best."
Taylor Fritz claimed a straight-sets win over Lorenzo Musetti in the earlier game while British doubles pair Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski won 6-3 7-5 against Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.
