Novak Djokovic will face wildcard Jack Draper in the opening round at Wimbledon, while Ashleigh Barty and Serena Williams take on Carla Suarez Navarro and Aliaksandra Sasnovich respectively as the draws for the men's and women's singles were made.

British player Draper, 19, showed his considerable potential by reaching the quarter-finals at Queen's Club last week and now faces the toughest test in men's tennis against the top seed and defending Wimbledon champion who is going for a third consecutive grand slam title, with Djokovic having won the Australia Open earlier this year, followed by the French Open earlier this month.

Sixth seed Roger Federer, who has been drawn in the opposite half to Djokovic, opens against another experienced grass-court campaigner in France's Adrian Mannarino.

Second seed Daniil Medvedev begins his campaign against German Jan-Lennard Struff.

Barty's best result at Wimbledon was a fourth-round finish in 2019

Andy Murray will play his first singles match at Wimbledon since 2017 against Georgian 24th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The 34-year-old had to rely on a wild card to get into the championships, with his ranking having dropped outside the top 100.

In the women's singles, top seed and world number one Barty will open against Spain's Suarez Navarro, who is playing her final Wimbledon before retirement after recovering from cancer.

In the absence of defending champion Simona Halep who confirmed her withdrawal due to injury, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka has been elevated to second seed and she will face a qualifier.

French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova takes on Danish 18-year-old Clara Tauson, while seven-times Wimbledon champion Williams, who is seeded sixth and chasing Grand Slam number 24, takes on Sasnovich first up and could play Angelique Kerber, whom she lost to in the 2018 final, in round three.

Wimbledon is returning this year after last year's tournament was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Along with Halep, the major players who have pulled out of the 2021 edition include Rafael Nadal, Naomi Osaka and Dominic Thiem.
