World number one Simona Halep was knocked out by Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh in a major shock at the end of a week of upsets.

The French Open champion took the first set against the world number 48 but ended up on the end of a 6-3 4-6 5-7 defeat.

It means nine of the top 10 women's seeds have been knocked out before the fourth round, with seventh seed Karolina Pliskova the only one still standing.

Alison Van Uytvanck also took the scalp of another seed.

The Belgian, ranked number 47 in the world, knocked out defending champion Garbine Muguruza in round two.

And Van Uytvanck, 24, reached the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career by beating 28th seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-2 6-3.

Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion, is safely through after a straight-sets win over Vitalia Diatchenko.

The Latvian raced through the first set in 23 minutes and had won the first nine games before Diatchenko troubled the scorers.

Ostapenko eventually ran out a comfortable 6-0 6-4 winner.
