Simona Halep booked a place in the Rogers Cup final for a second successive year after beating Angelique Kerber.

Halep, who lost the 2015 final to Belinda Bencic, has a chance to go one better in Montreal after beating second seed Kerber 6-0 3-6 6-2 in Saturday's semi-final.

Kerber was a shadow of herself in an opening set which lasted just 26 minutes, with her normally steady game marred by numerous errors.

The German then found form, winning six games in a row to take the second set in style and leave Halep feeling frustrated.

However, Halep then responded to the words of her coach Darren Cahill by regaining her composure to claim victory in an hour and 38 minutes.

The Romanian, who rises two places to three in the WTA rankings as a result of the success, will face number 10 seed Madison Keys in Sunday's final.

Opponent Kristina Kucova went into their semi-final in good form after defeating in-form British number one Johanna Konta on Friday.

However, the Slovakian qualifier was no match for her United States opponent as the pair met for a place in the final, going down 6-2 6-1 to Keys in just 50 minutes.
