Bjorn Thomson swept past Sedrak Khachatryan on his Davis Cup debut to help Ireland to a 3-0 defeat of Armenia.

Peter Bothwell and David O'Hare earned a 6-2 6-1 victory in the doubles, with Sam Barry easing past Mikayel Avetisyan in the singles.

Ireland put Albania to the sword their opening match in Tallinn, Estonia, and face Macedonia on Friday, potentially the toughest opponent in the pool.

If they can top notch another win they will take on the winners of pool A on Saturday in a bid for promotion to Group II in 2017.
