Milos Raonic exacted revenge on Roger Federer by beating the Swiss in straight sets to win the Brisbane International.
Federer beat Raonic to earn his 1,000th career win and lift the trophy 12 months ago, but on Sunday the world number 14 came out on top thanks to a 6-4 6-4 victory in Australia.
Raonic plundered three opportunities to break the defending champion in the opening set, but Federer then made an unforced error on his forehand to allow his opponent to take a 5-4 lead.
Raonic, whose season has been hampered by injury, closed the set out, but came off the court following the third game of the second set with a thigh problem.
Federer failed to take advantage of a brief stutter by Raonic, who served three double faults, and the Canadian broke in the seventh game before closing out the win in one hour and 27 minutes.
"It feels great," Raonic told the ATP's website after clinching his eighth tour title.
"It feels great considering how the past nine months have been. It adds a sort of cherry on top to all that. [The win] does great things.
"For myself it signifies within the team how concrete and good the work we're doing is.
"At the same time, with the difficulties I've had last year, it's maybe a good way for me to show the other guys I will face going into Melbourne that I've got my stuff back together and I can play some good tennis again."
