David Ferrer won his third ATP title of the year as he beat Kei Nishikori in straight sets at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco.

The Spaniard's fourth Mexican crown came with a 6-3 7-5 success against the in-form Japanese star and gave him a seasonal record of 18-1.

It was also a 24th career title for Ferrer, who never really looked in trouble.

He took the opening set after a 3-1 lead and then took a 3-0 advantage in the second.

Nishikori - who rises to a best four in the world - came back at him but Ferrer broke again and took the match in an hour and 49 minutes.

In the women's draw, Timea Bacsinszky lifted a first WTA title since 2009 after a four-year absence from the sport.

The fifth seed beat Caroline Garcia 6-3 6-0, reeling off eight games in a row in the process.

"Maybe I'm like a good wine - with time, I'm better," she told the WTA's official website.

"But seriously, I almost stopped playing in 2013. The road was long and still is long, but I've been working hard and I'm really proud."
