Ireland’s James McGee has been eliminated from the Australian Open in the second qualifying round.

McGee was beaten in straight sets by Sydney's Dane Proppoggia on a 6-3 6-4 scoreline on Court 6 at Melbourne Park.

Dubliner McGee had reached the second round by beating No 12 qualifying-seed Norbert Gombos from Slovakia 1-6 6-3 6-2.

However, he could not repeat that performance to reach the third and final qualifying round for the year’s first Grand Slam, losing the match with unforced error on a forehand.
