Garry Cahill has stepped down as Ireland’s Davis Cup captain, with immediate effect, after four years in charge of the team.
Cahill will continue in his role as performance director of Tennis Ireland, a position he has held since 2004.
The association expects to appoint a successor within the next two weeks to ensure an adequate period of preparation for the March 2015 home Davis Cup tie against Belarus.
Speaking about his decision, Cahil said: “I am very proud of my time as Irish Davis Cup Captain. I would like to thank the players and the board of Tennis Ireland for their support during the four-year period I was in charge.
“I believe the team have the ability to beat Belarus in March and I wish everyone involved the very best of luck in their preparations for that tie”.
