Ireland’s Conor Niland won his first round match at the Wimbledon qualifying tournament at Roehampton in London after a dramatic final-set decider.

The Irish number one, who has yet to qualify for a grand slam event, beat Josselin Ouanna of France 6-3 4-6 8-6.

Niland trailed 2-5 in the deciding set but recovered to progress to the next round.

The world number 187 saved five match points en route to victory and faces to more qualifiers in his bid to reach the main event.

The Limerick man must win two more matches to get through to the first round proper at SW19.

Austrlain Greg Jones awaits in the next round after he accounted for the fancied Italisn Paolo Lorenzi in three sets.

Niland has been in good form since the start of the grasscourt season, just losing out in his final qualifier for the AEGON Championships at Queen's Club to Aussie Matt Ebden.
