Persistent showers in Melbourne have forced Australian Open officials to reschedule a number of Monday’s first-round matches for Tuesday, including Louk Sorensen’s first-round clash with Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese-Taipei.

The outside courts at the inner-city venue were sodden under intermittent rain for the majority of the opening day, which caused four rain delays.

Twelve women's singles and four men's singles matches were postponed.

The weather forecast for Tuesday is, however, for more rain which could cause a further logjam in the match programme.

Most of the top players have been able to play their matches today under the retractable roof of the Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena at Melbourne Park.
