Ireland’s top ranked tennis player, Conor Niland, continued his fine recent form with an emphatic first round defeat of former world number 36 Karol Beck from Slovakia at the Izmir Cup in Turkey.
Niland successfully came through the pre-tournament qualification rounds and was tasked with taking on the number seven seed in the first round proper.
Playing flawless tennis throughout, Niland advanced on a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 scoreline to set up a second round clash on Wednesday against either American Todd Widom or former world number 9 Joachim Johansson from Sweden.
