Australian Robert Smeets claimed the 2008 Shelbourne Irish Open with a straight sets win over Denmark's Frederik Nielsen 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.
The opening set proved to be a tight affair, with Smeets emerging the narrow winner of a tie-break as the rain clouds began to move in at the Fitzwilliam LTC in Dublin.
Nielsen struggled to cope with his opponents serve throughout the match.
And Smeets took advantage of the tiring Dane to close out the second set 6-2 as rain began to fall at the Appian Way venue.
