Limerick's Conor Niland is through to the semi-final of the Shelbourne Irish Open at Fitzwilliam.

Niland recovered from a slow start to defeat the Swede Bjorn Rehnquist 6-4 6-3.

He will now face Rohan Bopanna of India in this evening's semi-final.

Niland is the only Irishman remaining in the competition as Louk Sorensen suffered defeat at the hands of Danish qualifier Martin Pedersen 6-4 7-5.

Sorensen suffered a groin injury in the last game of the match, which has put his participation in several forthcoming tournaments in doubt.
