Marcos Baghdatis hardly broke sweat as he overwhelmed former Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian to reach the last 16.

Last year's beaten semi-finalist cruised to the 101st win of his career to set up a likely fourth round meeting with sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko, who will resume against Gael Monfils on Tuesday two sets and a break up.

Baghdatis, who reached his first grass-court final at Halle last month, won 6-2 7-5 6-0 against the strangely out-of-touch Argentinian to emphasise his growing comfort on grass.

Baghdatis broke the 2002 runner-up six times and restricted him to a solitary break point in a match which was all over in one hour and 41 minutes.

In the only other third-round matches to be completed on day seven, 21-year-old Tomas Berdych further underlined his credentials with a straight-sets win over Hyung-Taik Lee, of Korea, and Jonas Bjorkman won the battle of the golden oldies with Wayne Arthurs.

Berdych, who won his first grass-court title in Halle, has improved every year since first entering Wimbledon in 2004 and today hammered home 15 aces in a 6-4 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-3) victory.

The Czech has dropped just one set in reaching the last 16 and, having beaten one man ten years his senior, will next take on another veteran, 35-year-old Swede Bjorkman, who enjoyed a 6-2 6-1 6-4 win over Arthurs to bring down the curtain on the Australian's colourful career.

Five matches from the bottom half of the draw were carried over tomorrow, when the last 16 should be finalised.

Second seed Rafael Nadal squandered a match point against Robin Soderling but was 6-4 6-4 6-7 (7-9) 4-6 2-0 ahead when play was called off at 8.21pm.

Former champion Lleyton Hewitt was two sets to the good against Guillermo Canas, Novak Djokovic won the first set against Nicolas Kiefer and Mikhail Youzhny was two sets up against Jarkko Nieminen.
