World number one Roger Federer and defending champion David Nalbandian reached the semi-finals of the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai with straight-set wins in the Red Group.
Federer ensured top spot in the group by dispatching Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 while Nalbandian went through with a 6-2 7-6 (7-4) win over American Andy Roddick.
Nalbandian will now face James Blake in Saturday's semi-finals while Federer must wait to see whether he plays Spain's Rafael Nadal or Russia's Nikolay Davydenko.
