Roger Federer's Wimbledon title defence went into overdrive as he dispatched surprise semi-finalist Jonas Bjorkman in straight sets to reach a fourth successive final.

After a rain delay of more than two hours, Federer quickly made up for lost time, taking just 77 minutes to claim a fourth straight-sets win over the veteran Swede in an embarrassingly one-sided semi-final.

Federer was in imperious form, hardly breaking sweat, as he extended his record-breaking winning run on grass to 47 matches with a 6-2 6-0 6-2 victory.

'It was difficult because I was a big favourite and you always hope you are going to live up to expectations,' he said.

'I played a secure game plan at the beginning and then definitely got on a roll and I played excellent tennis.

'I had to play a good return to break him and be focused on my service game to put pressure on him. It was difficult for him.'

The 34-year-old Swede never looked like upsetting odds of 200-1 on to end Federer's winning run and the first break came as early as the third game when Bjorkman netted a backhand under pressure.

The Swede gave hope to his fans by holding to love in his next service game but he never seriously threatened to trouble the three-time champion, who has yet to drop a set in the Championship and has lost his serve just twice.

The world number 59 simply had an answer to the power and precision of Federer, who drew his opponent to the net and produced a backhand cross-court winner to break him for a second time, before serving out to win the set in just 27 minutes.

Bjorkman saved his first break point in the opening game of the second set but had no response when the Swiss ace forced another and the Swede began to look dispirited when he was broken to love in the third game.

Three aces in the next game, doubling his tally for the match, took Federer out to 4-0 and there was no way back when Bjorkman was broken for a third time.

Federer showed brief signs of fallibility when he squandered two set points but he succeeded at the third attempt to wrap up the set 6-0 in only 23 minutes.

Federer, in no mood to let up, once more broke in the opening game of the third set and consolidated with a perfect love service game.

Bjorkman managed to stop the rot, ending Federer's 11-game sequence, which brought the loudest cheer of the match, and he held once more for 4-2.

But that was as good as it got for the outclassed Swede as Federer wrapped up the win and remain on course for a fourth consecutive Wimbledon title.
