Andy Murray will defy medical advice to play in Great Britain's vital Davis Cup tie against Serbia and Montenegro in Glasgow.

The British number one has been left out of the opening day's singles as he recovers from a bacterial infection which saw him confined to bed over the weekend.

The 18-year-old was advised by medical staff not to play in the Euro-Africa Zone tie because of the risk of further damage to his health.

But the Dunblane-born right-hander revealed today he was feeling much better than at the start of the week and will partner Greg Rusedski in Saturday's doubles.

Murray could then also be called upon to play in Sunday's reverse singles in a clash which Britain must win to have any chance of returning to the elite World Group next year.
