Tim Henman breezed through his first-round match against American wild card Donald Young in the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells.
Henman followed his fellow Briton Andy Murray into the second round, dismissing Young 6-3 6-1 in just over an hour on court.
Rain delays prevented Britain's other representative, Greg Rusedski, playing his match against Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka.
Henman, meanwhile, had few worries against Young as he booked a second-round meeting against the Czech Republic's 23rd seed Tomas Berdych.
Young did not hold up Henman unduly, the 31-year-old from Oxfordshire keeping his cool when the American had five break points during the first set and then taking two of the three opportunities he himself had.
Two breaks, each inflicted at the first opportunity, did the trick for Henman in the second.
