World number two Rafael Nadal is returning to play at the Chennai Open in early January next year, organisers said today.

The French Open champion, who was knocked out in the first round in southern India last year and skipped the event this season, will be the main draw at the $400,000 event, which starts in January 2.

He will be joined by compatriot Carlos Moya, who is double defending champion having beaten Thai Paradorn Srichaphan in the final for the last two years.

Paradorn, who is also in the field, won the title in 2003.
