Mary Pierce marched into the semi-finals of the US Open with a comfortable straight-sets victory over French compatriot Amelie Mauresmo at Flushing Meadows.
Pierce, the 12th seed and at 30 the oldest player left in the draw, dominated from the outset and ended up easing to a 6-4 6-1 victory in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
She took a 5-2 lead in the opening set before third-seed Mauresmo, who has not lost a set to her fellow Frenchwoman since 1999, won the next two games.
However, Mauresmo committed two double faults at just the wrong time to hand Pierce the set.
Pierce then broke her opponent in the second game of the second set before strolling to victory, becoming in the process the second Frenchwoman to reach the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows in the Open era.
