Britain’s Andy Murray has booked his place in the main draw for the US Open at Flushing Meadows.
The Scottish teenager defeated Ecuador's Giovanni Lapentti 6-0 7-6 in the third qualifying round yesterday.
As he secured the win he raised a finger to his lips, the gesture a message to his critics to keep quite.
Former British Davis Cup captain Tony Pickard and former Lawn Tennis Association national coach Alan Jones were in Murray's firing line.
“I don't think I got a lot of credit for Wimbledon about how tough it was and physically I wasn't in the best of shape,” Murray told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I know a lot of people like Tony Pickard and Alan Jones said I was soft - and I think I proved a lot of people wrong this week.”
