Rafael Nadal of Spain eased to a 6-1 6-2 victory over Brazil's Ricardo Mello in the second round of a rain-affected Montreal Masters on yesterday.

The 19-year-old French Open Champion delighted the crowd that had been frustrated by the rain delayed schedule that saw matches played until late in the evening.

His fist-thumping enthusiasm thrilled as he dominated his opponent to set up a third round encounter against Sebastien Grosjean.

The Frenchman advanced with a 7-6 6-3 victory over fellow countryman Richard Gasquet.

In other matches three-time Montreal Masters champion Andre Agassi overcame Jonas Bjorkman and Montreal-born Greg Rusedski won through against Max Miriyini of Belarus.

Fifth-seeded Russian Nikolav Davydenko had his hands full with 19-year-old Tomas Berdvch of the Czech Republic before finally winning 5-7 6-1 6-3.
