World number one and defending champion Lindsay Davenport crushed Czech qualifier Kveta Peschke 6-2 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of a rain-hit Amelia Island Championship overnight.
Russian sixth seed Vera Zvonareva was the only other woman to advance as she beat compatriot and ninth seed Elena Likhovtseva 6-4 6-4, but Venus Williams, Serena Williams and Anastasia Myskina were all held up by poor weather.
Fifth seed Venus Williams was locked at one-set all with Polish qualifier Marta Domachowska, having dropped the first 6-3 before rallying to win the second 6-4.
Today, second seed Serena will take on 1998 champion Mary Pierce, while French Open champion and third seed Myskina will play 15th seed Shinobu Asagoe of Japan.
