Top seed Roger Federer marched into the last 16 of the US Open with a convincing straight-sets victory over Fabrice Santoro of France.

The Swiss star, who already holds the Australian and Wimbledon titles, dispatched his French opponent 6-0 6-4 7-6 (9/7).

But third seed Carlos Moya crashed out to Olivier Rochus of Belgium.

Rochus, who at 5ft 5in is the smallest man on the ATP Tour, advanced after a 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 7-5 thriller in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Rochus, who had never gone beyond the first round of the US Open in four attempts, said:  "For me, that was the biggest win of my career. The atmosphere right there was phenomenal for me."

Andre Agassi wasted little time in brushing aside potentially tricky Czech opponent Jiri Novak 6-4 6-2 6-3.

Agassi's next opponent will be Sargis Sargsian, who erased a two-set deficit and saved two match points to beat Paul-Henri Mathieu of France 4-6 4-6 6-4 6-2 7-6 (7/4) in four hours 41 minutes.

The sixth seed has yet to drop a set but refused to look ahead to a potential meeting with Federer in the last eight.

"I don't look ahead," Agassi said. "I mean, I know it's a cliche. It's a great problem to worry about, you know, when it's time to worry about it."
