Pete Sampras turned Andy Roddick's dream match into a nightmare, defeating the 20-year-old 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the US Open. Sampras, the 17th seed, will play number 24 seed Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands in tomorrow's semi-finals.
Schalken held off 28th seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 7-6 (7/2) in a quarter-final match which took nearly four hours.
