Chanda Rubin caused yet another upset at the WTA Los Angeles Open on Saturday by crushing Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia 6-0 6-2 to reach the final where she will play Lindsay Davenport. Rubin took just 42 minutes to overcome her opponent, making it the worst defeat of the year for the number four seed and world number five. Dokic was booed by the crowd in the second set as it became obvious she had given up on her chances of making a comeback. Afterwards she claimed she was suffering from flu.
"I wasn't feeling good. I have had a lot of matches and I couldn't even give 10 percent out there physically and mentally," said Dokic, who simply watched a number of Rubin's shots go by without making an effort to return them. "I have been sick the last few days."
Meanwhile, Davenport booked her place in the final with a comfortable 6-3 6-4 victory over Ai Sugiyama of Japan.
