The WTA have confirmed that former world number one Martina Hingis will not enter the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year. Hingis, who is recovering from ankle surgery, will miss the July 15 deadline for entry into the tournament, the organisation said on its website www.sanexwta.com.
"Representatives for Hingis indicated that the former World number one would not submit an application to play in the US Open by the July 15 entry deadline," a statement on the website said.
The Swiss world number four had to withdraw from both the French Open and Wimbledon because of the surgery that was performed in May to repair ligaments in her left ankle.
