Hewitt through to Round 3

Lleyton Hewitt today completed a straight sets victory over France's Gregory Carraz and will now meet Austria's Julian Knowle in Round 3. Hewitt was tested in the first two sets before cruising home in the third for a 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 victory.

Hewitt claimed his victory had been built around a rock-solid serve which he held throughout the match. "I didn't start as sharply as I could have but I held onto my first service game which gave me a solid start," he said.

"I had asked a bit about him and he definitely had a big serve so it was important not to slip behind to an early break because he would have gained a lot of confidence from it. He served well and didn't give me much of a chance on his second serve. When he did I won about 90% of the points but he kept it going pretty well."

Hewitt admitted the second set tie-break provided the pivotal moment, with Carraz holding the advantage until he cracked, failing to win a point after taking a 5-2 lead. "He gave me a chance with his smash and I wasn't going to let him off," he continued. "Then I came up with a good passing shot and even though he didn't give me a cheap point when I was serving for the set, it was a huge turnaround in such a short space of time."
