Clarisa Fernandez has made it to the semi-Finals of the French Open in Paris. Fernandez defeated fellow Argentinian Paola Suevez 2 sets to 1.
Suevez looked as if she could take the semi-Final place having won the first set 6-2. She lost a hard-fought second set 7-6 after a tie-break of 7-5. Fernandez regained her confidence having pulled a set back and went on to thrash Suevez 6-1 to win the final set and match.
In another of the Women's Quarter-Finals, Monica Seles went out to Venus Williams in straight sets losing 6-4 6-3. Rain interrupted the game after Williams had taken her one chance at a break to lead 3-1. When play resumed Williams took advantage of a lacklustre display by the three-time winner to win the opening set 6-4 without too much fuss.
That seemed to wake Seles up who came out in the second set and broke Williams at her first attempt. Williams moved up a gear though and her determined power play was too much for Seles. She fought hard but had no answers to Williams who won the second set 6-3 to qualify for her first French Open semi final.
William's sister Serena was up against former Champion Mary Pierce but nothing was going to stop Williams who followed her sister into the semis with an easy 6-1 6-1 victory.
