Williams takes Nasdaq-100 Open title

Serena Williams defeated Jennifer Capriatti in straight sets to take the Nasdaq-100 Open title in Miami today. Williams won the match 7-5, 7-6 with a powerful display of tennis to move up to seventh in the world rankings. She said afterwards, "I just told myself to take them (the points) one at a time. It was two hours of unbelievable tennis."

Captriatti fought hard but it was Williams' ground strokes that proved the difference as Capriatti failed to cope with the sheer power of her shots. Williams took the title after recovering from a break down in the second set to win the tiebreak 7-4. The result continues the Williams' sister's fine record in the event as Venus was champion here in '98, '99 and last year.
